Roadmaps and Survey Results

by Scott Schwarzhoff on August 25, 2009

Thanks to over 300 of you who responded to our roadmap survey last week. Based on your feedback, we’ve finalized our near, mid, and long-term roadmaps for Titanium mobile and desktop.

Titanium Mobile
The #1 feature request for Mobile was “More High Level UI Controls” (56.3% critical). We’re going to be adding to this list starting with our GA release featuring a UI picker (eg: date picker), coverflow UI component and more gestures (swipe/zoom). We’d like to continue adding to this library, so let us know if you have additional examples that we should look at. Map integration also came out high (42.5% said it was “Critical”). As was Address Book integration (33.8%). With most folks hooking their apps up to some database, we’re also prioritizing improvements to native table views. Other top features are on the candidate list for post-GA release.

Twitter and Facebook were the #1 and #2 API requests. Twitter is actually possible today (download Kevin Whinnery’s Snapost app for reference code), but native support for Facebook Connect is on the GA plan. We believe that most Titanium apps will benefit from adding in either or both of these social graph components.

From a mobile phone perspective, you voted for Blackberry as #1 (47.4% saying Must Have). That’s first on our list to add in. More details coming…

Desktop
Php, php, php, php. Did we mention that you asked for php support? Well, it’s coming in GA. As is the oft-requested drag & drop feature. Beyond GA, there were several features requested that we are taking a strong look at, including native printing support, in-app advertising, Facebook Connect integration, etc. We’ll have more detail on that over the coming weeks.

Finally, since school is in now in session, we felt it was a good time to have you grade our performance. 98.2% felt we are in the great or good category, which is promising. But we have a high bar – get every single one of you into the you guys rock category…

As always, please let us know if you have any suggestions on features you’d like to see or bugs that we can squash at support.appcelerator.net.
