Is the global economic crisis getting you down? Everyone needs a little extra pocket change right about now so Appcelerator decided to get together and launch our very own economic stimulus plan! Not to outdo President Obama, but hey, maybe we can help out too.
For the next couple weeks, Appcelerator is running a community-based contest to hunt for the developer that creates the most downloaded Titanium-based application as well as the highest rated Titanium-based application. You all know us well enough by now to know we’re the first ones to admit that the coolest concepts come from outside our four walls so we want to see what you got!
Starting today you are invited to submit one, or two, or twenty Titanium-based applications. Anyone is allowed to participate, even core Titanium developers, and anyone can start building their app and push it into the Titanium app exchange today. We are looking for good apps and want you to have enough time, so in order to give everyone a fair shot – community voting will not begin until Monday, April 13th at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
In order for your application(s) to be eligible to win the two top prizes you must fulfill three, very simple, steps:
- Submit your application(s) to Titanium Developer and receive a personalized download URL.
- Follow Appcelerator on Twitter.
- Tweet the following phrase from your personal Twitter feed: “I just submitted for @appcelerator’s #titanium app contest – download my app here:
”.
By tweeting your unique URL you will be automatically entered into our contest. Of course you can create applications and not submit them to the contest, but what’s the fun in that? During the judging period, apps can be updated and re-released as many times as needed to fix bugs or add improvements. For the next two weeks the rest of the Appcelerator community will be downloading all the new apps and rating them. Each person/machine can only rate an app once. However, downloads apps are counted every time (regardless of user/machine). The community-judging period will officially end on Monday, April 20th at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
On Tuesday, April 21st we will announce the two winners – the app that has been downloaded by the community the most and the app that has received the highest rating from the community. We’ll announce the winners right here. Continue to check out the Twitter feed for daily updates on recently submitted apps and interesting analytical data.
Now let’s get down to the good stuff. What do you win? No contest is complete without a shot at fame and fortune. In addition to immediately becoming the main focus of mine and Nolan’s undying love you will also be showered with infinite celebrity and prestige. We’ve reserved a special spot for you and your winning application on the main Appcelerator website. We’ll also be throwing in a lil’ extra stimulus money – $500 (USD) to the most downloaded application and $500 (USD) to the highest rated application. If you are one of the first ten developers to submit an application you will also receive a special Appcelerator Power Developer T-shirt specifically designed for you. Yes, we are rolling out collectors edition t-shirts – you guys are that badass.

Too bad you are only giving us two weeks to do this… If you guys want some decent applications submitted then you should give the developers a little more time.
Can an entry be submitted after voting begins? I’m finishing up something, but probably won’t be done until tomorrow.
